Biographical Information

John Glaiser was long credited with having pitched 9 games for the 1920 Detroit Tigers. In fact, he did start the season with Detroit, and pitched in 8 games between April 20th - his major league debut - and May 31st. On June 4th, he was sold to the Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League and pitched with them through September 10th. He was married a few days later and placed on the voluntarily retired list for the rest of the season, but resurfaced with the Omaha Buffaloes of the Western League in 1921. In 1922, he went 12-10 with a 3.07 ERA for the Houston Buffaloes and 3-3 for the Tulsa Oilers. In 1923, John had a 3-2, 5.94 record for the Galveston Sand Crabs. Returning for a final season in 1925, he was 3-8 with the Omaha Buffaloes.

Research conducted in 2007 by SABR member Bob Hoie has confirmed that the last game credited to Glaiser's record, on September 21, 1920, was in fact pitched by one Norm Glaser, who spent most of the 1920 season with the Rocky Mount Tar Heels of the Virginia League and was called up to Detroit on September 11th.
