Biographical Information

John Corcoran played six games for Connie Mack and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1895, hitting .150. He had played in the minors in Norfolk in 1894 and 1895, hitting .318 with good power in the latter year. Born in Cincinnati, he died there at just 28. The site Pittsburgh Pirates History has some biographical information about John. The Pirates supposedly signed him without ever seeing him play, based on the word of pitcher Al Orth. Norfolk's season had ended, so Corcoran was available in September. Jake Stenzel, a top Pittsburgh player, knew of Corcoran because they were both from Cincinnati. While Corcoran made some good defensive plays, he also made some embarrassing plays and did not hit much. He had a foot injury in 1896 that had a role in ending his pro career and, in 1901, he died of consumption. Pirates Shortstop John Corcoran.
