Biographical Information[edit]

John W. Coleman pitched one game for the 1890 Philadelphia Phillies. He is not to be confused with John F. Coleman, who also pitched at times for Philadelphia and was active in the majors for part of 1890 as well. John W. was born in Philadelphia and turned 30 before he pitched in the majors. The average age of the pitching staff that year was 23.2, and he was the oldest pitcher on the team. Teammate Sam Thompson was the same age.
