Biographical Information[edit]

Though John Christensen did not have a spectacular big league career (132 games, .234 average with four teams), he was involved in two spectacular trades that shaped the 1986 World Series, ironically in the one year between 1984 and 1988 he did not play in the majors. Prior to the 1986 season, John was part of the New York Mets offering to the Boston Red Sox to net left-hander Bobby Ojeda, an 18-game winner in Queens with two postseason victories, including Game 3 of the Fall Classic. After the postseason, John was the player to be named later sent to the Seattle Mariners in the deal that netted Boston postseason hero Dave Henderson and Spike Owen.

John's brother, Jim Christensen, was a minor league second baseman from 1977 to 1983, mostly in the Minnesota Twins' chain. John was the South Atlantic League RBI Leader in 1982.
