Biographical Information[edit]
John Bender was a minor league player and a college coach, primarily guiding football teams but also baseball and basketball. He had played football at Nebraska, setting a school record for points.
After graduating in 1904, Bender played minor league baseball for five seasons, mostly in the Northwestern League.
He was 85-33-1 as head baseball coach for Washington State University (1907-1908, 1913-1915) and the University of Tennessee (1917, 1920).
