Biographical Information[edit]
John Barnes was a longtime college coach.
Barnes graduated from Colorado State College in 1964. He pitched for the Bears through his junior year before injuries prevented him from playing as a senior. He was on the 1962 team that competed in the 1962 College World Series. He coached at Colorado high schools through 1969 [1], including Northglenn High School from 1967-1969. He was hired as baseball coach at Northwest Missouri State College in 1970-1972, posting a 45-50 record [2]. He was then physical education instructor and head football coach at Salmon High School in Idaho.
Barnes returned to Colorado as baseball coach of University of Southern Colorado in 1977, staying through 1985 andposting a 184-169 record, when the school eliminated baseball, and winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title in 1980. Barnes finally returned to his alma mater as head coach from 1986 to 1990, posting a 90-133 record.
