Biographical Information[edit]
John-Eric Hernandez was a star pitcher in NCAA Division II.
Hernandez was named MVP of the 1999 Division II College World Series, pitching Chico State to a national title. In 2000, he had a 10-1, 3.46 record to win All-American honors; all five NCAA Division II All-American pitchers that year had first names starting with J (Jon Krysa, Josh Reynolds, Jeremy Ward and Jerrod Payne were the other four). He finished as Chico State's career leader in wins (41), innings (402 2/3), whiffs (334) and games pitched (75).
The Detroit Tigers picked him in the 41st round of the 1999 amateur draft. He pitched two games for the 2000 Oneonta Tigers but struggled (0-1, 4 H, 5 BB, 3 R in 1 2/3 IP). His career ended due to Graves' Disease.
