Biographical Information[edit]

Johe Acosta was a minor league outfielder and coach.

Acosta batted .327 for the 2000 DSL Pirates; that year, he also hit .159/.216/.168 for the GCL Pirates with an abysmal .804 fielding percentage in the outfield, with more errors (9) than either RBI (8) or runs (7). He led Gulf Coast League outfielders in errors. With the same club in 2001, he hit .212/.333/.303 and fielded .929. He batted .229/.357/.457 and fielded .949 for the '02 GCL Pirates. He finished his playing career with the 2003 Missoula Osprey, producing at a .251/.320/.448 clip with 10 homers in 65 games but also 75 strikeouts in 223 AB. He tied for 5th in the Pioneer League in home runs and was 7th in whiffs.

Several years after ending his playing career, Acosta joined the professional coaching ranks with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization where he stayed for three years. He disappeared from the scene in 2014 before resurfacing with the Houston Astros organization in 2023.
