Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Wood attended Rice University in 1939. Breaking into the majors during World War II, he played 60 games on the Detroit Tigers in 1943, doing quite well for a rookie. He hit .323 with 4 triples, although his range factors at second base and third base were low. He was released in 1946.
He had five years in the minors, and might have had more if not for the war. All of his minor league teams were based in Texas.
He is not to be confused with Joe Wood the pitcher, who came to the American League in the year after this Joe Wood was there.
