Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Stanley played six games in the 1884 Union Association for the 1884 Baltimore Monumentals. He got five hits, with a .238 batting average on a team that hit .245 overall. Defensively, he played center and right field.

A notice in the April 23, 1884 issue of Sporting Life stated that the Monumentals had released "Jas. Stanley", possibly a brother of Joe.

He is not to be confused with the later Joe Stanley.

In 1883, outfielders named Stanley appeared with several amateur clubs: the Archer club of Trenton, NJ, the Ashland club (presumably from the city of the same name in Pennsylvania) and the Mantua club of West Philadelphia.
