Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Shipley started one game in his major league career. It came on June 14, 1959 in the second game of a doubleheader as a member of the San Francisco Giants against the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings, giving up 2 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 5 and striking out 1. The Giants lost the game, 6-3. Stu Miller was the losing pitcher.
He also spent some time with the Tacoma Giants in 1960.
Shipley was the baseball coach at East Tennessee State University from 1966 to 1977.
One source says he once hit a batter in the on-deck circle while in the minors. on deck
