Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Murff was a minor league baseball catcher who played in 1934, from 1936 to 1942 and again in 1949. Overall, he hit at least 84 home runs in his nine-year career, swatting at least 24 in one season (minor league records are incomplete for Murff, therefore it is unknown just how well or poorly he performed statistically).
He also managed the West Palm Beach Indians for part of the 1940 season, leading them to the postseason.
He served in World War II.
His birthplace has variously been listed as Florida, Cleveland, OH and Warsaw, KY. Baseball-Reference.com lists it as Cleveland. He also went by the name Joe Bistauff.[1]
