Joseph Anthony Molloy

Joe Molloy was born and raised in Tampa, Fl. While teaching at a high school there he meet and married Jessica Steinbrenner, daughter of New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Following the marriage, Molloy joined the family business and began working in the Yankees front office, eventually rising to the position of vice president of minor league operations. Following Steinbrenner's banishment from the game in 1990, Molloy was one of the men selected to replace him as managing general partner of the team. He replaced Robert Nederlander as managing partner after Daniel McCarthy was rejected by the commissioner, after serving on an interim basis. Molloy ran the Yankees from March of 1992 until March of 1993. After the Boss' return Molloy remained with the team as a general partner and worked on various front office deals including negotiating contracts for Joe Torre, Derek Jeter and Tino Martinez. Molloy took a leave of absence from the team in 1997 to return to teaching. During this time, problems in his marriage with Jessica began to worsen and the two separated and eventually divorced in 1998. Shortly after the divorce, Molloy stepped down from his general partnership with the Yankees. He has since returned to teaching in the Tampa area.
