Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Driscoll was an American League replacement umpire on August 25, 1978, when the regular umpires staged a one-day strike.
He was a long-time amateur baseball umpire in and around Boston, MA, also working basketball and football games. He also umpired college baseball games, including the 1982 College World Series. His brother, Jim Driscoll played briefly in the major leagues; another brother, Mark Driscoll, played minor league baseball. Their father worked as an usher at Fenway Park to complement his income and got his sons into many sporting events around the Boston, MA are when they were young, thanks to his connections.
