Biographical information[edit]
Joe Borich was a successful minor league catcher who player-managed for a couple seasons.
He played from 1945 to 1953, hitting as high as .387 in a season (1950, with the Reno Silver Sox). From 1948 to 1952, he never hit below .320, and from 1948 to 1953 he never hit below .310. He played 1,015 games over the course of his nine-year career, hitting around .326. It should be noted that the vast majority of his career was spent in high-scoring southwestern leagues when .300 averages were the norm. He only played one game above C ball.
He was the first of three managers for the Shelby Farmers in 1949, being replaced by Harold Dedmon. He managed the Reno Silver Sox to a 75-63 record in 1950, leading them to a playoff berth. They lost in the first round.
He is interred at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sacramento, CA.
