Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Joe Biernat played in the minor and independent leagues from 1993 to 1996 after being taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 60th round of the 1993 amateur draft. He was taken one pick after first baseman Graham Koonce, the only player from that round to make the big leagues.

In his first campaign, he hit .287/.363/.385 with 4 home runs, 26 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 69 games for the Geneva Cubs and followed that with a .246/.302/.372 line with 7 home runs, 36 RBI and 8 stolen bases (with 9 caught stealing) in 111 games for the Peoria Chiefs in 1994. Moving to the indy ranks for 1995, he hit .282/.331/.446 with 81 hits in 77 games for the St. Paul Saints his first year and .182/.250/.212 in 33 at-bats in his second season.

Overall, Biernat hit .265/.325/.392 with 16 home runs, 100 RBI and 37 stolen bases in 269 games over four seasons.
