Biographical Information[edit]
Jodie Marek turned to professional baseball after being a football star for Texas Tech. He pitched for four seasons. In 1939, he was 23-10 with a 4.22 ERA for the Big Spring Barons. He led the West Texas-New Mexico League in wins (3 over Willard Raines) and innings (275). The next two years were spent with the Moline Plowboys, with records of 12-10, 4.12 and 11-14, 4.57 respectively. He wound up his career with the Cedar Rapids Raiders for six games in his final season (2-1 in 1942). He had a composite record of 48-35, 4.19 in 105 minor league games. Following his baseball career, he played fullback in 8 games for the NFL Brooklyn Dodgers in 1943.
