Biographical Information

"Jimmy Say played third base in the Utica club during the latter part of last season and played it well -- so well, in fact, that he led the New York State League in his position and also ranked well in batting." - Sporting Life, December 16, 1885

"Jimmy Say is playing the greatest game of his life and hitting the ball." - Sporting Life issue of June 6, 1888

Jimmy Say had one of the best cups of coffee on the way out of the majors. In his last year, 1887, he hit .375 in 16 games and 64 at-bats. His slugging percentage was .547.

He had broken in during the 1882 season when he was 20, the second youngest player in the league during the inaugural year of the American Association. He hit .209.

In 1884, the year of 3 leagues, he came back and hit .224. He also hit .264 in the Eastern League in 1884.

In 1887, the year he hit .375, it wasn't a big-hitting year for the Cleveland Blues. The team as a whole hit .252.
