Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop Jimmy Cooney played three years in the majors, debuting in 1890 in a year of three leagues. He was a regular in 1890 and 1891 with the Chicago Colts. Jimmy was the father of Johnny Cooney and Jimmy Cooney. Jimmy Senior died of pneumonia at 37, never seeing his sons play.
Jimmy also had a long minor league career, most notably playing eight seasons with teams based in Providence, RI.
