Biographical Information[edit]

MiLB.com, the minor league baseball website, says Jim Walkup was "probably the best control pitcher in Texas League history". He came from Okmulgee to Fort Worth in 1924 and played with the Panthers to 1930. In 1925, when the Fort Worth team went 103-48, Walkup went 19-7. The next year he was 22-11.

He briefly pitched in the majors in 1927.

After his time with the Panthers, Walkup went to Birmingham for three years. His team won the Dixie Series in 1931. In 1934 he went back to the Texas League for one final year.

Walkup was the cousin of James Elton Walkup.
