Biographical Information

Jim Shaw pitched nine seasons in the majors, all with the Washington Senators during the time of Walter Johnson. In perhaps his best year, 1918, he went 16-12. During his careeer he led the league twice in saves and once in innings pitched.

In 1918 and 1919 he was second in the league in strikeouts, each time behind his teammate Walter Johnson. In 1918 he had a higher rate of Strikeouts per Nine Innings than did Johnson.

Shaw was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1893, the same year that Joe Schultz and Cy Rheam were also born in Pittsburgh.
