Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Ritz played one game in the majors. His obituary in Sporting Life of November 21, 1896 stated that his father W.W. Ritz had managed Altoona in the early 1880's, and Jimmy had served as the mascot. He practiced with the team and became a good infielder. He was later "on many teams". He died after three weeks' illness with typhoid fever.
The only other major leaguer through 2011 with the same last name has been Kevin Ritz.
