Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Penders is a college coach.

Penders hit .354 with 46 RBI as a senior for UConn in 1994, earning All-Big East Conference honors at catcher. After graduating, he worked as a fund raiser for Senator Tom Harkin from 1994-1996. Returning to Connecticut, Jim was a graduate assistant in 1997-1998 while earning his master's degree. In 1999, he became a full-time assistant coach, a role he held for five years. He became head coach in July 2003, the 6th head coach in the program's 80-year history. He was 160-124-2 in his first five seasons. He was named Big East Conference Coach of the Year in 2006 after a 39-18-1 season.

Jim has coached baseball clinics in Regensburg (Germany), Leksand (Sweden) and the Czech Republic.

Penders comes from a distinguished baseball family. His father Jim Penders II has been a successful high school coach in Connecticut, winning four state titles, as did grandfather Jim Penders I. His uncle Tom Penders was a minor league player who has coached college basketball for over 30 years. His brother-in-law Aaron Quinn played in the minors as well and his brother Rob Penders is a college coach and former minor leaguer.
