Pitcher Jim Merrick played in the Minnesota Twins farm system from 1965 to 1968, going 32-19 with a 3.01 ERA in 81 games (58 starts). In his final season, with the Orlando Twins, he went 11-9 with a 2.80 ERA in 24 starts.
He managed the St. Cloud Rox in 1969 and 1970. Sources disagree as to whether he managed the team in 1967, or if it was Ken Staples. In 1992, he served as the AZL Brewers pitching coach, a role he also held for the Helena Brewers in 1996 and 1997.
He also coached at McClintock High School from 1968 to 1999 and is a member of the Arizona High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the ASU Athletic Hall of Fame, Arizona Baseball Coaches’ Hall of Fame and Tempe City Hall of Fame.
