Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Jones made his major league debut for the Louisville Colonels in the (in)famous Chicago Colts-Louisville game of June 29, 1897. Chicago won 36-7; the 36 is still the record for the most runs scored in one game. Jones was charged with 22 runs that day.
Jones's 22 runs allowed is not the most for any pitcher: Dave Rowe of the Cleveland Blues gave up 35 runs while starting against the Chicago White Stockings in 1882. Strangely, no one seems to know the record for most runs charged to a relief pitcher. So Jones likely holds that record.
He later played for the New York Giants in the Christy Mathewson era.
After his baseball career he was elected County Clerk for Laurel County, KY. He later served as City Clerk for London, KY.
