Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Higgins spent six years in the minor leagues, playing in the 1940s and 1950s.

He began his professional career with the Del Rio Cowboys of the Longhorn League in 1948, hitting .313 with 165 hits in 137 games. In 1949, he moved to the Ballinger Cats, also of the Longhorn League, and hit .297 with 172 hits in 140 games.

Moving to the West Texas-New Mexico League in 1950, Higgins hit .312 with 186 hits for the Amarillo Gold Sox. He suited up for the Sox in 1951, hitting .277 in 25 games with them, but spent most of the season with the Harlingen Capitals of the Gulf Coast League, hitting .276 in 111 games there. Overall, he hit .276 with 146 hits in 1951.

With the Capitals again in 1952, he hit .287 with 180 hits in 153 games. He wrapped up his career with Harlingen in 1953, hitting .259 in 114 games.

Overall, Higgins played 821 games over six seasons, hitting .292 with 955 hits. Not a power hitter, he slugged only nine home runs in his career.
