Biographical Information[edit]

Massachusetts native Jim Galvin spent ten years in professional baseball from 1929 to 1939.

Galvin had a brief appearance in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox in 1930. He appeared as a pinch-hitter in two games in late September, failed to hit, and this was his only shot in the Show.

Jim was behind the plate for his entire career in the minor leagues. He appeared with ten different teams in eight leagues. He fielded his position at a career .960 percentage.

Galvin had several creditable seasons in the minors. He had five seasons hitting .300 or better. Also, while with the Richmond Colts of the class B Piedmont League in 1933, 1934 and 1935, he hit .300, .302 and .297 respectively, along with 15 home runs each season.

Jim also had a good season in 1937, with the Atlanta Crackers of the Southern Association, catching 107 games and hitting at a .301 clip. Galvin left the game in 1939, at the age of 31, with a minor league career batting average of .287 and 71 home runs in 2,172 at-bats.

After baseball, Galvin made his home in Marietta, GA, where he worked an lived until his death on September 30, 1969. He was 62 years old.
