Middle infielder Jim Foster began his baseball career with the 1949 Wausau Lumberjacks, batting .295. The next year, he hit only .213/~.347/.262 in 38 games for the El Dorado Oilers and fielded just .910; he spent most of the year putting up better numbers for the Gainesville G-Men (.927 fielding, .290/~.406/.379, 27 SB in 89 games). After two years off, he hit .301 with 86 RBI for the 1953 Jacksonville Beach Sea Birds. Personal Remembrance[edit]

Jim Foster was a veteran second baseman on the Class B 1955 Rock Hill Chiefs of the Tri-State League. Jim was of short stature, but muscular, and had once been a boxer. His hometown was Chicago. He wore eyeglasses, and had short wiry red hair. My guess is he was in his mid-to-late twenties when he played for Rock Hill. Jim was very competitive, and a "take-charge" kind of guy on the team. I was also on this team, and remember him as being dependable and consistent, a professional, and probably a contact hitter, with occasional power. He may have played for the Class A Charlotte Hornets at some point in his career.
