Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Filippi had a roller-coaster career which peaked at AA.
Filippi was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 12th round of the 1984 amateur draft. He then proceeded to dominate the Gulf Coast League, going 10-1 with a 0.61 ERA, 46 hits and 74 strikeouts in 74 innings. He led the GCL in both wins and ERA and was just two strikeouts shy of leader Mark Cieslak to fall short of a pitching Triple Crown. He was named the GCL All-Star starting pitcher.
In 1985, Jim went from a one-loss season to a one-win one as his ERA was multiplied over ten times. He was with 1-7 with a 6.69 ERA and 59 walks in 79 1/3 IP for the Appleton Foxes and allowed three runs in nine innings for the Glens Falls White Sox. The next year, he pitched for both Appleton (0-2, 10.64, 13 BB in 11 IP) and the San Diego Padres' Reno Padres (0-1, 7.33, 29 BB in 27 IP). He wrapped up in 1987 with a rebound season for Reno and the San Bernardino Spirit (a combined 13-9, 3.10) though he walked 104 in 165 1/3 innings. He allowed 17 home runs, most in the California League.
