Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Devine was 0-4 between the 1884 Minneapolis Millers, Richmond Virginians and Terre Haute. He posted a 0.76 ERA for the 1885 Syracuse Stars to lead the New York State League and held Syracuse to a title. There are no W/L records for pitchers in the league but he presumably was up there. He was 2-4 with a 1.05 ERA for Syracuse in 1886. The league ERA champ was Bill Serad at 1.02 but Devine did not have enough innings anyway. He was 6-9 with a 2.23 ERA his third season with Syracuse. His pitching career ended in 1888 with Oshkosh, going 1-10 with a 3.82 ERA. He umpired two games in the American Association in 1890.
