Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Castiglia was at Georgetown from 1937-1941 and came up to the Philadelphia Athletics in 1942, where he hit .389 in 16 games and appeared a few times at catcher. Bill James once picked Castiglia as one of the ugliest players in the 1940s. See list. While there is no record of Castiglia in organized minor league ball, he played in the outlaw Quebec Provincial League in 1938 (a game with Trois-Rivières) and 1939 (.261 in 42 games with Drummondville). He was a running back in college and eventually played for several NFL teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Colts.
