"Charley Carr, manager of the Kansas City team, says that Billy Breton, a young infielder he got from University of Illinois, is a young wonder who is (sic) in a year or so will break into the big leagues and prove a sensation." - from Sporting Life of July 5, 1913, about Jim Breton who, in fact, came to the majors a month later
Jim Breton played three years for the Chicago White Sox, serving as a regular in 1914. He was a year older than teammate Ray Schalk and two years younger than teammate Jack Fournier. Breton was born in Chicago and attended the University of Illinois at the same time as Fred Brainard.
