Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jim Bivin of the Philadelphia Phillies was the last pitcher to face Babe Ruth in a big league game when he started against the Boston Braves in the first game of a May 30, 1935 doubleheader. Despite pitching in the majors in only one season, Bivin played in the minor leagues from 1932 to 1949. He pitched at the Class A level or higher from 1932 to 1940, then at the B and C level from 1940 to 1949, missing all of 1943 - 1945 due to World War II. He also spent six years managing in the Brooklyn Dodgers system.
