Biographical Information[edit]

Big Jim Baskette pitched for the Cleveland Naps from 1911 to 1913. Most of his innings came in 1912, when he went 8-4 on a team that finished under .500. Jim played for Toledo in 1910-1911 and 1913. The Sporting Life issue of January 10, 1910, states that Baskette was one of six players that the Naps "cut loose" during the winter to Toledo. The same publication's issue of March 29, 1913, said that Toledo would not let Ray Williams go to the Naps unless the Naps gave up a hurler to the Mud Hens, probably Baskette. Baskette did pitch for Toledo in 1913 (he was traded for Dave Gregg) but Williams did not appear with the Naps that year.

Here is a photo, said to be staged during spring training around 1912, of Joe Jackson sliding and Baskette putting a tag on him.
