Biographical Information

Jim Bailey is the brother of catcher Ed Bailey; they were teammates on the Cincinnati Redlegs in 1959. His brother-in-law, Al Neil, was a minor league slugger. Jim was a left-handed pitcher who came up for a brief time in 1959, giving the team a rare brother battery. He made just one start and two relief appearances, losing his only decision, 2-1, with the run that beat him scoring on a pop fly to the infield that fell safely. He had further bad luck the following year in spring training when he suffered a broken arm, and never again pitched in the majors.

In the minors, Jim pitched for six seasons, posting a record of 60-48. His best year was 1957 when he went 18-7 for two teams. From 1958 to 1960, when not in the majors, he played for the Nashville Volunteers. Jim lives in Fairburn, GA, as of 2008 and has been employed with the Atlanta-based P.I.E. Nationwide, in freight motor sales.
