Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Johnny Carvajal began his professional playing career in 1993 in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He continued playing in the minor leagues through 2003 with various organizations, including those of the Montreal Expos, Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants. He was involved in a major league trade on December 15, 1995 when he went from the Reds to the Expos in return for P Gabe White. Even though Carvajal played at the Triple-A level in multiple seasons, he never received a promotion to The Show. In his eleven minor league seasons, Carvajal hit .259/.324/.336 while appearing in 1,181 games. After a five-year break, Carvajal resumed playing in 2008 in the Italian Baseball League. He spent four seasons in Italy, with a different team each year.

Carvajal began his coaching career in 2006/2007 with the Caribes de Anzoátegui of the Venezuelan League when he served as their first base coach. He may have held the same position the following season. He returned to the Eastern Caribbeans in 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 in the same role. In 2012 Carvajal was the first base coach for the Pericos de Puebla in the summer Mexican League. He also spent the 2012/2013 through 2014/2015 seasons coaching first base for Caribes.

In 2016, the San Diego Padres hired Carvajal as an infield coach for the DSL Padres. He moved up to the Fort Wayne TinCaps for the 2017-2019 seasons where he worked as the team's fielding coach. Carvajal was slated for a fielding coach position with the AZL Padres 1 in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. During these years, Carvajal also continued coaching in winter ball. He was once again the first base coach for Caribes in 2018/2019. The following season he moved to rival Águilas del Zulia as their bench coach.
