Biographical Information[edit]

Jhonaldo Pozo played one game at AAA.

Pozo was signed initially by San Diego Padres scout Felix Francisco. Originally a corner infielder, he hit only .140/.242/.213 with 74 strikeouts in 164 at-bats for the 2007 DSL Padres. He was 5th in the Dominican Summer League in strikeouts. In 2008, he moved to catcher and hit much better (.235/.355/.385), though he had nearly as many passed balls (17) as runs (22). The next year, he was the main backstop for the AZL Padres and batted .196/.269/.326. During 2010, he played for the AZL Padres (.328/.333/.422 in 19 G), Lake Elsinore Storm (3 for 11, 2B, 5 K) and San Antonio Missions (0 for 1). He was the stereotypical organizational catcher in 2011, playing only 29 games between five teams: the Eugene Emeralds (1 for 6), Fort Wayne TinCaps (4 for 17, 5 BB), Lake Elsinore (.167/.180/.208, 17 K in 48 AB), San Antonio (1 for 3) and the Tucson Padres (did not bat in one game). He ended his playing career with the independent 2012 Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, going 3 for 28 with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Overall, Pozo batted only .202/.287/.302 in 213 minor league games, with 53 runs and 74 RBI. He saw his most defensive action at C (.976 in 126 G, 20% opponent steal rate) and 1B (.973 in 40 G).

Pozo then became a catching instructor for his old DSL Padres club from 2013-2019 and was slated to return in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. He may have coached for the ACL Padres and/or the Lake Elsinore Storm in 2021, but this could not be verified. He was bench coach of the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2022, Lake Elsinore Storm in 2023, and Fort Wayne again in 2024.
