Biographical Information[edit]

Jesus Fabela is an outfielder who began playing in the Mexican League in 2014. In his first season with the Diablos Rojos del México as a 19-year-old, he hit .337 in 64 games. His biggest contribution came in the league championship against the Pericos de Puebla on September 11th. Puebla had just taken an 8-6 lead with 3 runs in the top of the 9th when the Red Devils mounted a rally, with Sergio Gastélum and John Lindsey both hitting singles. The 37-year-old Lindsey, representing the tying run, was no speed demon, so he gave way to a pinch-runner, but that player was injured, so incame the rookie at a crucial point of the series as a pinch-runner for the pinch-runner. In what would be a nightmarish inning for the Parrots, 1B Julio Perez committed an error that loaded the bases, and Gabriel Gutierrez singled in a first run. next up was Iván Terrazas, and he hit a fly ball that allowed Jesus to score the tying run. Juan Carlos Gamboa then hit a game-winning homer in the bottom of the 10th, completing a four-game sweep by Mexico City.

Fabela played for Mexico City every year after that, excepting the 2020 season that was cancelled by the Coronavirus pandemic. He usually maintained a high batting average with seasons of hitting .335 in 2015, .314 in 2017, .322 in 2018, .368 in 2019 and .395 in 2022. That compensated somewhat for a lack of power, as he never hit s many as 10 homers in one season, and even reaching double figures in doubles was far from a given. He did slam 28 doubles during the high-octane offensive season that was 2019, and also scored 104 runs in 114 games that year. But while the Red Devils were regular participants in the postseason afther their title in 2014, they have not managed to repeat since.

In addition to his work in the Mexican League, Jesus has played winter ball in the Mexican Pacific League every year since 2014-15, mainly with the Venados de Mazatlan, but also with the Tomateros de Culiacan. He made it to the 2021 Caribbean Series with Culiacan, reaching the semi-finals.
