Biographical Information[edit]

Jesse Whiting pitched in the majors in 1902 and 1906-07. Three of his five appearances were with the 1906 Brooklyn Superbas.

Whiting was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1879. He played for a minor-league Phildelphia team in 1900. In 1902, he played for Manchester and also came up to the 1902 Philadelphia Phillies for one game, pitching nine innings and taking the loss.

He spent some more time in the New England League before coming back to the majors with the Superbas in 1906. His 2.92 ERA was better than the team ERA of 3.13. The following year he got into one more game with the Superbas, but also appeared in the minors with Jersey City. In 1908 he played again in the New England League, winning 20 games for Lawrence.

He died in 1937 in Philadelphia.

The Sporting Life of September 24, 1904 carried an article called "The Case of Whiting Settled", involving the question whether Whiting was owned by Manchester or St. Louis.
