Biographical Information[edit]
Jesús Cartagena has played for and managed the Venezuelan national team. He never played professionally. He led the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games with a .529 average and 11 hits, but Venezuela tied for last at 2-4.He was on Venezuela's team in the 1983 Pan American Games. He hit .385/.394/.641 with 5 RBI, 9 runs and two steals in 10 games in the 1984 Amateur World Series; he easily led Venezuela in OPS and also led in runs. He had 25 putouts in right field, two assists and no errors.
Cartagena hit .377 in the 1986 Amateur World Series to pace Venezuela again. He was on the Venezuelan squad that won Bronze at the 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games and remained with them for the 1987 Pan American Games. He hit .333/.333/.667 with a team-high 7 RBI in six games as Venezuela's center fielder in the 1990 Baseball World Cup. He then managed Venezuela in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games.
