Jerry Lyscio began his pro career splitting time between pitching and playing outfield. With the Melbourne Twins of the Cocoa Rookie League in 1964, he led the league with 7 wins and tied for the league lead with 2 home runs. After that season, he was selected by the Houston Astros in the Rule V draft. With the Cocoa Astros in 1965, he primarily played outfield, hitting just .159 with 200 strikeouts in 128 games. After that season, he was primarily a pitcher, three times reaching double-digits in wins but never playing above the AA level.
