Biographical Information

Jerry Hoffberger was a minority owner but the largest shareholder of the Baltimore Orioles from 1954 to 1964, and then, after buying out a series a smaller share owners, became principal owner from 1965 to 1979, after which he sold the club to Edward Bennett Williams for $12 million. During his tenure as owner, the team made it to the World Series five times.

Hoffberger served in the Army in Africa, France, and Italy during World War II. He returned to join his Hoffberger Brewery in 1946 and became president in 1947. Hoffberger and fellow minority owner Clarence Miles had helped to convince Clark Griffith to allow the St. Louis Browns' move to Baltimore by making his National Bohemian beer a Senators sponsor.
