Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jeff Criswell is the son of Brian Criswell, who played in the minor leagues for five seasons in the 1980s. Jeff was first drafted out of high school in the 35th round of the 2017 amateur draft by his local team, the Detroit Tigers, but decided to attend the University of Michigan instead of signing with them. After three seasons with the Wolverines, the last of which was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, he was drafted again, this time by the Oakland Athletics, in the 2nd round of the 2020 amateur draft. He appeared in the 2019 College World Series with Michigan.

He pitched in the A's system in 2021 and 2022, reaching AAA by the end of the second year when he was a combined 4-10, 4.03 in 24 games spread among three different teams at three different levels. He was named an Athletics organizational All-Star after the season. On December 6th that year, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in return for fellow pitching prospect Chad Smith. He spent all of 2023 at AAA with the Albuquerque Isotopes but was hit hard, finishing at 5-10, 7.51 in 29 games, including 26 starts. In 2024, he moved to the bullpen and was 1-1, 6.24 at the time of his first call-up to the Show. In spite of giving up a lot of hits (75 in 57 2/3 innings), his K/W ratio was very good at 83/28. He made his debut on August 21st, pitching one scoreless inning of relief in a 6-1 loss to the Washington Nationals.
