Biographical Information[edit]

At 6' 7", pitcher Jeferson Mejia is one of the tallest players ever to come out of Latin America. He was signed by the Chicago Cubs at age 18 before the 2013 season and began his professional career that year in the Dominican Summer League, making three starts and pitching 9 innings for the DSL Cubs. He moved to the United States in 2014, where he played for the AZL Cubs. In 12 games, he made 2 starts and pitched 40 innings, putting up a 2.48 ERA and a record of 2-4. he gave up only 30 hits, but walked 17, while striking out 45.

On december 9, 2014, the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired him along with another prospect, Zack Godley, in return for starting catcher Miguel Montero. In spite of Mejia's lack of professional experience, the D-Backs saw some great upside in the tall pitcher with the power arm (his fastball was timed up to 97 mph at times).
