Jayson King has been a very successful coach in NCAA Division II.

King was a graduate assistant while at Springfield College. He was head coach of UMass-Boston in 1997-1998, going 21-47; he set a school record with 13 wins in '98. He was a coach for the Bourne Braves for three years,working with David DeJesus.

In 1998, King became head coach of Franklin Pierce University. Taking over a 8-22 program, he improved them to 17-22 in 1999, the team's best season in 10 years in Division II. They were better yet at 21-19-1 in 2000 and 25-22 in 2001, when they only had eight home games due to snow.

Franklin Pierce won 30 games for the first time ever in 2002, when King's squad was 31-17. They moved up to 32-17 in 2003, making their first NCAA Tournament and going all the way to the 2003 Division II College World Series, where they won twice. The school became the first one from New Hampshire to make the College World Series in either Division I, II or III. The team won 32 games again in 2004 and 2005 (32-14).

In 2006, King guided Franklin Pierce to another school record for wins, going 46-13 and making the 2006 Division II College World Series; they finished the year 4th in the country as per Collegiate Baseball, their highest ranking at year's end to that point.

Franklin Pierce was 49-11 and made the 2007 Division II College World Series, then was 43-15 and made the 2008 Division II College World Series. After falling to 37-18 in 2009 and missing the World Series, he rebuilt the team to 41-15-1 and a spot in the 2010 Division II College World Series. They also made it to the 2013 Division II College World Series and 2016 Division II College World Series. Through 2016, King was 675-338-3 as a head coach. He was assistant coach at the United States Military Academy in 2017 then became head coach of the University of Dayton for 2018. He remained there through 2024, when Dayton won 33 games - the highest for the program since 2009. He became assistant at Vanderbilt University in 2025.
