Biographical Information[edit]
Jay Tessmer played four years in the majors for the New York Yankees, with a career record of 1-0.
Tessmer was at the University of Miami in 1994 and 1995 at a time when there were several future major leaguers on the team, perhaps most notably Alex Cora. He was drafted by the Yankees in the 19th round of the 1995 amateur draft and spent most of his minor league career in their organization, although he was also in the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies organizations in 2001.
For the Tampa Yankees in 1996 he went 12-4 with a 1.48 ERA. Exclusively a reliever in the minors, he had 176 saves.
An article in the New York Times of September 28, 1998, called him "soft-spoken and earnest".
