Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jay Johnson attended Xavier University and hit .349 with 6 home runs and 36 RBIs as a senior there. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round of the 2005 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer, hitting .273 with 12 doubles, 3 home runs, and 38 RBIs. He split 2006 between the Greenville Drive, Portland Sea Dogs, and Wilmington Blue Rocks and hit .280 with 18 homers and 73 RBI between the three stops. He began the next year with the Lancaster JetHawks, hitting .282 with 5 home runs in 25 games there before being promoted in May to the AA Sea Dogs, for whom he hit .265 with 5 homers and 64 RBIs and batted .412 in the postseason.
