Biographical Information[edit]
Jason Vosler made his major league debut with the San Francisco Giants in April 2021, after having been signed as a minor league free agent the previous November. He was originally a 16th-round selection by the Chicago Cubs in the 2014 amateur draft, out of Northwestern University. Following the 2018 season, he was traded to the San Diego Padres in return for P Rowan Wick. He played the 2019 season in the Padres' system before being forced to sit out the 2020 season by the Coronavirus pandemic which shut down the minor leagues.
Vosler hit his first major league homer in a key situation for the Giants on May 26th. He had just been called up before the game from the AAA Sacramento River Cats to replace injured 1B Brandon Belt on the roster; he then entered that night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 6th inning when Belt's replacement, Darin Ruf, had to leave the game due to a strained right hamstring. Shortly thereafter, he capped a Giants comeback by homering off Alex Young in the 8th inning, immediately after teammate Austin Slater had hit a pinch homer to tie the game at 4-all. Vosler's shot proved to be the difference in a 5-4 win. He had gone 2--for-14 in his first 8 major league games before hitting the clutch long ball.
