Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jason Green played in the minor leagues from 1993 to 1996. He was originally taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 35th round of the 1991 amateur draft, but did not sign. He did sign after the Atlanta Braves took him in the 9th round of the 1993 amateur draft, two picks after infielder Jamie Burke.

Blessed with great strikeout ability and cursed with poor control, Green went 3-2 with a 2.91 ERA and 27 hits allowed in 43 1/3 innings in 1993, his first professional campaign, striking out 63 and walking 36. On August 4 of that year, while with the GCL Braves, he took part in a combined no-hitter. After starting the game, Green was replaced by Bill Faile, who was replaced by Charlie Gann, holding the GCL Expos hitless. The next year, he tossed 85 innings and struck out 123 batters, while allowing just 52 hits -- but he also allowed 100 walks and threw 17 wild pitches. He had 59 strikeouts and 31 hits allowed in 50 innings the next year, but also walked 79 and allowed 13 wild pitches, and in 1996, his final campaign, he tossed 20 innings, allowed 30 walks and 8 wild pitches, and struck out just 15 batters. He split that year between the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros chains.

Overall, went 10-16 with a 4.95 ERA in 198 1/3 innings. He allowed 127 and had 260 strikeouts, while allowing 245 walks and 44 wild pitches.

He died at age 43.
