Biographical Information

Journeyman catcher Jamie Burke spent parts of nine seasons in the minor leagues before getting a shot to show his stuff with the Anaheim Angels in 2001. His most substantial looks as a backup (57 games for the Chicago White Sox in 2004 and 50 games with the Seattle Mariners in 2007) resulted in rather impressive batting lines. With the Pale Hose, Jamie batted .333/.386/.408 in 120 at bats, driving in 15 runs. With the M's, he batted .301/.363/.398 with 12 RBI and his first big league home run, off A.J. Murray of the Texas Rangers, on September 30, 2007, the final game of the season. In parts of eight seasons, Jamie batted .277/.328/.351 in 191 games.

He also took the bump once. On July 6, 2008, the Mariners were involved in an extra inning affair with the Detroit Tigers at Safeco Field. After 14 innings, the M's ran out of pitchers with the score deadlocked at 1. Burke made an emergency appearance, promptly serving up a double to his first foe, future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera. He unleashed a wild pitch during the next at bat, allowing pinch runner Mike Hollimon to advance to third base. Marcus Thames then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Hollimon. Burke retired the next two hitters, but the M's failed to score in the bottom of the 15th, giving Burke the loss and an 0-1, 9.00 record.

Jamie played football at Oregon State in his amateur days. He later managed the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2012 and Burlington (IA) Bees in 2013.
